Charming Century Old Webster Groves Bungalow Gets A Fresh New Perspective

This is such a fabulous reveal! I have been keeping this one a bit of a secret until it was complete. And it's been so hard to keep it under wraps! My clients were a dream to work with! They loved their home and wanted a new direction! They knew they wanted to honor their Colorado and St. Louis roots.

Rooms & homes don't have to be huge to be amazing.

In fact, small and quaint can be just perfect.

There are loads and loads of charm in this home. Which made it so much fun to do! There are lovely archways, antique window frames, original terra-cotta tile, and a lovely fireplace.

Living Room Before:

This is one of the largest rooms in the bungalow but no one ever spent time in here. Its bones are fabulous but the beige, yellow, and oversized sofa were not welcoming.

The colors made the space dark and meh.

Fireplace Before:

Opposite this side of the room is a a small space & window. The front door divides the two spaces. This area was unusable.

This is common with many of my clients, they just don't know how to arrange the space to have it make sense.

One side of the room had all the furniture while the other side didn't have much.

This family loves to have family and friends over. So we know we had to make sitting areas that could be multi purpose.

East Window Before:

The dining room is in the center of the house. The archways are so pretty and the lead your eye into the rest of the house. The light is amazing in this room!

Like many of us we decorate a little over time without a true plan for an over all vibe.

My clients needed help to make a new plan.

Dining Room Before:

Two years ago my clients created an amazing back yard oasis. The garden paid homage to their Colorado roots.

Stone pathways, conifers, & laurels set the tone outside. It really is its own work of art.

This is where the back room gets its inspiration. The idea of having the majority of the first floor white and bright gave us latitude on designing the back sitting room.

Back Sitting Room Before:

We know the living room needed a gallery wall. I worked with my clients to see what images they already owned & treasured. We laid out all the images on the floor & began to piece the wall together. Then, I made templates of all the images with paper.

Pro Tip:

Use paper templates first! It's much easier to move art around when it is paper and painters tape. Especially when the walls are plaster.

I always start in the center and work my way out to each side.

Varying the scale of art makes things much more interesting.

Living Room After:

We love the way this room turned out! Its design is very much like our mood board. It is relaxed & modern. The white walls, warm wood tones, Colorado & southwest vibes bring it all together.

The West Elm Whitney sofa has clean lines but is relaxed in the way it is finished. The Pendleton pillows were a tiny splurge but totally worth the style they bring.

We loved West Elm's Mid-Century Leather Show chair was the perfect pairing with this room.

Now this room is warm & welcoming. The family gathers here every day. The poof in the corner can be used for extra seating for the teens in the household.

The gallery wall is full of family memories, collected art, & treasured pieces.

We had the hearth and all the painting was refinished by Lisa Lackey Designs & St. Louis Repair & Restoration. They were able to bring the original tile to life with a face lift. Their attention to detail on this century old bungalow was key to the over all design.

The fireplace is used often in the winter. This room is the ultimate in cozy space without being moody.

My clients are avid art collectors & this space is a lovely canvas for their collections.

Oh my Oh my! I love this little sitting area. This a great way to divide a room and make your space work for you.

These chairs are light weight and easy to move if they need to. This is a great sitting area that is used often.

What can I say? I LOVE the way this came together! The Woven Dome Pendant is warm & textural giving this space its boho spice.

The Pendleton rug was another splurge & so worth it. The rich red color anchors the space in a way that no other rug could. This rug is Americana at its best! The design was an important part of our Colorado feel.

Ok, I am obsessed with the custom bespoke metal railing. I was so excited with work with Perpetua Iron in St. Louis, Missouri. They 100% captured exactly what we wanted at the correct scale. They were a pleasure to work with.

The West Elm Table & Holland Chairs were the perfect finish and size.

The herringbone carpet runner was the exactly what was on our mood board and Ambassador Flooring Mid West made it happen for us! I love the herringbone against the beautiful white walls and patterned rug.

We were able to ground this space with a beautiful modern yet earthy side board, black modern lamp, photography, & floral ceramic wall hangings. SO GOOD!

After Whiskey & Game Room:

Ok hold on to your seats!! This tiny jewel of a room is one of my favorite transformations EVA!

The garden was our main inspiration for this space. There are large doors over looking their garden which allowed for some serious mood when it came to color.

We painted the walls in an egg shell finish and the ceiling & trim in a gloss finish.

I mean come on!

My friend and carpenter was able to bring to life these bespoke built in's. I love the banquet that was custom designed and built for the puzzle nook. It is so refreshing to create a space for analog pastimes like puzzles, records, and whiskey.

I love the man-cave-colorado-whiskey vibe in this space. The elk antlers are an antique family heirloom from a grandfather who lived and hunted in Colorado. All the art work were family pieces that speak to their heritage. The cow hide and sisal rug brought this design into right "world".

We designed & made the beautiful cushion to complement the rich wall color. The handsome leather swivel chairs were a must!

My friend Jim Langley was able to bring our dream built in bookshelf to life. It was absolutely perfect for this space, scale, & style. The build in's were specifically built to hold, whiskey, wine, LP Player, humidor, books, and art work.

Rooms & homes don't have to be huge to be amazing. In fact, small and quaint can be super satisfying.

This project was small like a jewel & love letter to family, craft, preservation, heritage.
